Launch Date

The Tecno Pop 4 was announced and released in July 2020, making it a relatively new budget smartphone offering from Tecno. Being a 2020 phone, it comes with up-to-date features like Android 10 Go edition out of the box.

With dimensions of 160 x 77.3 x 9.5 mm, the Pop 4 has a tall and slim body typical of 18:9 aspect ratio phones. It is compact enough to fit comfortably in one hand.

The phone is lightweight as well, though Tecno has not provided an official weight in grams.

The build consists of a plastic frame and back panel, which is understandable for an affordable device like this. The back cover has a matte texture that resists fingerprints.

For SIMs, the Pop 4 has dual nano-SIM slots with dual standby support. There is no hybrid slot, so you can use two SIMs along with a microSD card at the same time.

The Tecno Pop 4 features a 6.0-inch IPS LCD screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a resolution of 480 x 960 pixels, which gives it a pixel density of approximately 179 ppi.

While not the sharpest display around, it is decent for everyday usage and should reproduce colors well enough. The bezels are not the thinnest but acceptable for the price. There is no notch or punch-hole cutout.

As for protection, there seems to be no official mention of Gorilla Glass or other reinforcements. A screen guard is recommended to be safe.

Operating System (OS)

This phone ships with Android 10 Go edition out of the box. This is a lightweight version designed for entry-level hardware. It retains core Android features while being optimized for smooth performance on budget phones.

On top of Android 10 Go, the Pop 4 runs HiOS from Tecno.

This custom UI adds useful functionality like phone cloning, smart panels, and iManager for cleaning up junk files. Basic features like app drawer, dark mode, and gesture navigation are present.

Powering the software experience is a quad-core Unisoc processor running at 1.3GHz.

While not the fastest chip around, it should handle everyday tasks reasonably well. For graphics, an integrated GPU is used.

The Tecno Pop 4 packs 32GB of internal storage, which is decent but not very generous. Thankfully, you can expand it substantially using a microSD card up to 256GB.

For RAM, there is 2GB onboard, which is just enough for basic multitasking.

You may face some slowdowns and app reloads with memory-intensive games and apps. Up to 32GB of virtual RAM can be allocated using the internal storage.

There is a single 5MP rear camera on this device. It is a basic shooter for daylight shots and comes with a dual-LED flash for low light conditions. Video recording maxes out at 1080p 30fps.

For selfies, the Pop 4 has an 8MP front camera with its own LED flash. It should be decent for social media pictures and video calls. Photo features are limited though, so don’t expect fancy portrait modes.

Tecno Pop 4 Price In Nigeria

Tecno Pop 4 Price In Nigeria is NGN 65,000 at Jumia as of 15th July 2024.

The global average price of the Pop 4 is around 80 EUR currently. Considering its entry-level specs and features, the price tag is quite affordable overall. Different sellers may have slight variations in pricing.

The Tecno Pop 4 comes equipped with a standard loudspeaker for audio playback. Sound quality is nothing special but adequate for ringtones, alarms, media, and calls. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack if you prefer using wired headphones.

For network connectivity, the phone includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2. Both are slightly dated standards but get the job done for basic usage. GPS is present for navigation apps like Google Maps.

Unfortunately, there is no NFC for contactless payments. FM radio makes the cut, allowing you to listen to local stations on the go. For charging and file transfers, a microUSB 2.0 port is used.

This budget Tecno phone comes with standard sensors like accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for quick and secure biometric authentication.

Fueling the Pop 4 is a sizeable 5000mAh battery, which is excellent for an affordable smartphone. It ensures long runtime even with heavy use. Standby times will be equally impressive.

Charging power is capped at 10W, so full top-ups will take around 3 hours. There is no fast charging support. Given the large capacity though, most users can get away with charging once a day or overnight.

The Tecno Pop 4 is available in two color options – Ice Lake Green and Dawn Blue. Both feature unique gradient finishes.

This phone comes in two models namely the BC2c and BC1s. They seem to have minimal differences.
